IBPYP
The PYP is not a curriculum but is an approach to teaching and learning that emphasizes inquiry-based learning, collaboration, international-mindedness and student voice and choice. The PYP strives to help students develop the knowledge, understandings, skills and attitudes needed to be lifelong learners who know that they can make a positive difference in the world.
Here in Madac, we are passionate that the students are at the heart of our learning and their opportunities are both innovative and inclusive. A key aspect is to help students develop their understanding of being a Global learner as their international mindedness is developed on how they can make a positive contribution to their community and the wider society. Our students learn through relevant and purposeful contexts, building upon prior learning and our curriculum promotes this by being challenging, engaging and motivating to all learners, fostering a real thirst for knowledge that we want them to take with them as they move into middle school and beyond.
The PYP program in Madac actively contributes to a holistic educational experience. Through inquiry and discovery, students, teachers, and the school community collaborate in order to connect and apply prior knowledge to new situations, deepen existing knowledge, broaden perceptions, and improve the way they understand the social and natural world.
Based on the premise that children are innately curious and creative with the ability to think critically and reflect, the PYP provides a dynamic learning environment, full of opportunities for reflection, inquiry, and discovery, linking knowledge with life experiences and connecting it to the surrounding world.
For this reason, the essence of all International Baccalaureate Programmes centers on the Learner Profile attributes, which is comprised of ten attributes aimed at embracing a lifelong love of learning and the well-rounded development of the learner through the reinforcement of Approaches to Learning Skills where they gradually develop a range of social skills, communication skills, thinking skills, research skills, and self-management skills.
In Madac learners are involved in actions which not only help them realize and exploit their potential, but also make them feel the need to put into practice what they have learned. Moreover, learners have the opportunity to make choices, to have their own voice heard, and to gradually take ownership of the learning process.
“Student choice is more than simply picking a task. It’s about owning the entire learning process’.’
– John Spencer –
Therefore, the PYP program targets and fulfills both the academic and social-emotional needs of students. Additionally, the benefits of this balanced learning practice ensure a seamless transition to the Middle Years Program.
PYP Curriculum Framework

The PYP programme is based on transdisciplinary education and inquiry, which means that learners explore important concepts across all subject areas.
This goal is achieved through the Programme of Inquiry surrounding six Transdisciplinary Themes listed below. These themes are the lens through which students approach knowledge.
1- Who We Are
2- Where We Are in Place and Time
3- How We Express Ourselves
4- How the World Works
5- How We Organize Ourselves
6- Sharing the Planet
Through these transdisciplinary themes, learners effectively participate in the learning process, work collaboratively, propose and develop ideas, and learn to evaluate situations using critical thinking and self-assessment.
Each Unit of Inquiry is based on the concept-based learning approach, which is as follows:
1- Central idea
2- Key concepts
3- Related concepts
4- Lines of inquiry
Through the above, learners are suitably guided to organize knowledge in their own unique way, to discover patterns, common principles and processes, and to reflect on what they already know and connect it to unfamiliar contexts. As a result, they are better able to understand and process the constantly evolving information of the modern world.
PYP Exhibition
The exhibition is the culminating, collaborative experience in the final year of the Primary Years Programme. It is an authentic process for learners to explore, document and share their understanding of an issue or opportunity of personal significance using the skills and concepts gained through their PYP Journey. It is also a celebration in transitioning from Primary to Middle School.
